Take Part has been a year -long initiative developed by the London Borough of Hounslow in Partnership with London Civic Forum to encourage further participation in civic society.
Our programme of events consisted of a number of activities including;
Why vote Campaign - A poster campaign throughout the borough to publicise the local and general elections and encourage people to 'have their say'
Training for Staff - The provision of a number of workshops for staff addressing ‘engagement’ including techniques such as how to gauge when a process of engagement is necessary, assessing which techniques would be best to utilise and evaluating the effectiveness of the exercises employed. Addressing theory, the ‘engagement cycle’ and practical examples.
Action learning set engagement training - The provision of a training course for residents interested in having more of a say in influencing the area in which they live, covering basic issues such as how to get involved in your community, organise a community meeting or contact and influence your local councillor. A wide-ranging publicity campaign will be employed to ensure that the sessions are open and accessible to all demographics of the community and the third sector will be used as a key mechanism by which to involved those deemed ‘hard to reach’ .
